Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve fought an internal battle.
For far too long, I’ve been a person who would prefer to keep the peace rather than risk upsetting somebody by doing or saying something that opposes their world view, regardless of whether this view offended me or those close to me. I’d at times express my concerns when I’ve felt others have been wronged & yet, all the while, second guessing my decision to do so. Diligently seeking all views to an argument & fearing the wrath of another if they perceive I have neglected their “side”. The time has come, however, & I can no longer let myself be overtaken by an anxiety that has dictated I stay quiet. The “good girl” who just let’s things be. Afraid of offending someone, of being chastised, belittled, patronised or just plain laughed at.
Recent world events have left me feeling sick
I’ll be clear. Recent world events have left me feeling sick. The intensifying hatred, ignorance & fear that is so prevalent & engulfing our every turn leaves me gasping for a breath of reasoning, for a glimpse of humanity. I ache for world peace & yet the realist within knows that this ache is something I’ll have to learn to live with. I refuse, however, to stop asking & working for it. What I vow to do is NOT bury my head in a pit of denial & stay quiet. I DO have expectations of my fellow human beings that, regardless of whether they are able to be met, I will keep. I WILL continue to push for accountability amongst those in positions of leadership & work to promote the autonomy of the individual. It is my belief that a better world will be established on the firm foundations of the strength & resolve of each individual. However, with our combined strength, we CAN achieve great things. It’s with these expectations in mind that I invite you, with open arms, to join me in building a better world.
Girls Sweat Too is a mindset that asserts women are not just capable…we have an inner strength that, when sparked, can move mountains
Girls Sweat Too is more than health promotion & apparel. Girls Sweat Too is a mindset that asserts women are not just capable…we have an inner strength that, when sparked, can move mountains. Historically viewed as weak, emotional & even hysterical we’ve often been left voiceless & tolerated. Traditional views of place & status have resurfaced at a frightening pace & are gaining momentum. Thank you, but I do NOT accept your gift. What I DO accept is my capacity to live a passionate life of loving kindness, compassion, acceptance & advocacy for unity, equality & humanity.
Mountains can & will be moved as both women & men stand alongside each other &, with a steady assurance, assert “enough”!
An inner strength has been stirred. Mountains can & will be moved as both women & men stand alongside each other &, with a steady assurance, assert “enough”! Enough fear mongering, enough hatred. No more justifying condescending, manipulative, controlling speech & behaviours because you are threatened by differences or challenged by independent thought.
Change happens & traditional beliefs are simply rehearsed thoughts that have suited a few in an attempt to reassure their anxious minds that life & all its happenings can be controlled. Unfortunately or fortunately there are more things beyond our control than our busy minds will have us convinced of. Accepting this, taking control of the things we can, & waking up to a daily practice of loving kindness & compassion we can set the foundations for peaceful progress. Rather than clinging on to values & beliefs that discriminate & marginalise, let’s stand together to prioritise humanity. Individuals can create a ripple effect of change & it is that powerful potential within that I challenge each of us to trust & strengthen.
Chest proud, the warrior within is stirring & mountains WILL be moved.
